Dear Classmate,
Our Thirtieth Reunion is but two months away. We speak only for ourselves, but did the last five years feel like two? It would appear we are not tracking in the right direction unless one is anxiously awaiting our Fiftieth. Save the dates and plan to attend: Friday, September 23 through Sunday, September 25. If our record Class Report submissions (in excess of 800 entries) are any indication, we will be joined by many 1981 Classmates.
September in Cambridge, on average, is in the low 70s during the day and drops down to around 60 degrees at night. There is absolutely, positively, no better time of year than September to walk around the Square and the Yard. We have a tour of the Sackler Art Museum along with a walking tour of Six Buildings That Shaped Harvard History scheduled Friday and Saturday respectively.
On Friday evening, we’ll enjoy a pre-game buffet at the Murr Center before walking over to the Stadium to watch Harvard thrash the Brown Bears in football. We’ll gather again after the game to celebrate the victory and continue catching up with each other.
Following a Memorial Service on Saturday morning, we’ll have a chance to experience one of the College’s hottest new course offerings: Food as Science. (Please check out the website www.seas.harvard.edu/images/PWMar11news-harvard.pdf to learn about all the excitement and publicity this course has produced.) Using the “TED Talks” format, we will then hear from some of our classmates Saturday afternoon.
Our Gala Dinner Dance at Pforzheimer House Saturday night will feature a wonderful buffet, open bar, and an after-dinner espresso bar. Dancing, assuming the legs are willing and able, may even take place. And we hope that conversations continue long into the evening.
Our Thirtieth Reunion committee has done a wonderful job planning our September weekend, and we promise a good time for those able to return to Cambridge. A top priority was to keep the weekend as informal and friendly as possible. We simply wish to reconnect with old friends, share a few laughs, and wish people well.
As Co-Chairs for all these many years, it has been so rewarding to welcome you back to Cambridge. We hope that those of you who could attend our Twenty-fifth still feel warmed by the glow of those memories, and we hope to rekindle that sense of fellowship this fall. Please, if there is any way you can make it, we want to see you. Strength in numbers has always been a hallmark of the Class of 1981.
Enclosed is a registration form. Register online or mail or fax your form back to us. See you in September!
